If you follow this blog, you probably have realised that I don't usually wear bold lip colours.
I find that nude, lightweight and super moisturising formulas are what usually work best for me.
However now, with the Holiday Season almost on our doorstep, I feel the need to go a bit sassier lipstick-wise!
Over the last couple of weeks, I have tried to come up with a wide selection of holiday red lipsticks, with different finishes and different pigmentation. Enjoy!
LEFT TO RIGHT: LOOK Beauty Fat Lips! in Smacker | MAC Lip Pencil in Redd | REVLON Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Provocateur | REVLON Lip Butter in Candy Apple | REVLON Lip Butter in Macaron | BENEFIT Benebalm & Benetint | NARS Dragongirl | MAC Russian Red
LOOK Beauty Fat Lips! in Smacker £6 - A 2-in-1 lipstain & lipstick that is not too muted, not too in-your-face. It reminds me a lot of Clinique's Chubby Sticks, with a more attractive price tag! | Pros: Price & durability. | Cons: I think this product might have been discontinued, as I can't find it anywhere anymore!
MAC Lip Liner in Redd £12.50 - The perfect shade of tomato red. | Pros: MAC=Outstanding quality, plus it lasts ages. | Cons: I am not a huge fan of using lip pencils to colour my lips, I find it too drying!
REVLON Colorburst Lacquer Balm in Provocateur £7.99 - I love, love, love this one! It leans a bit towards the fuchsia side, with lots of shine and super minty and balmy sensation | Pros: Everything? Plus Boots usually has offers on Revlon products. I got this one for free when buying two lip butters. | Cons: None for me!
REVLON Lip Butter in Candy Apple £7.99 - I am a huge fan of REVLON lip butters. They are lightweight, seriously moisturising and come an awesome range of colours. | Pros: If you are more a lipgloss/lipbalm person, but want a sassy hint of red, this is your Holiday lipstick! | Cons: If you are into matte, bold lipsticks, this won't do the trick for you.
REVLON Lip Butter in Macaroon £7.99 - You might think "Hey, this is not a red lipstick". And you are absolutely right. However, I believe that this vintage rose shade, with slight hints of red, will make an amazing holiday lipstick. | Pros: It is wearable and sophisticated. And it will leave your lips really, really smooth! | Cons: Once again, if you are after a bold shade, this might not be it.
BENEFIT Benebalm + Benetint £14.50
MAC Russian Red £15.50 - This lovely deep and velvety shade of red has been around since the 80s and has become MAC's most iconic ever lipstick | Pros: It looks stunning in pictures, so all of you Instagram Bunnies out there... You need this lipstick, if you don't have it already. | Cons: I personally find that this lipstick dries out my lips a serious lot. And applying lipablm and/or lipgloss pretty much ruins the velvety finish. So for me, Russian Red is a photo-only lipstick.
NARS Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl £18 - Another iconic shade that deserved a mention in this post. It is a very, very intense shade of cherry red. | Pros: It looks stunning and it doesn't feel as drying as MAC's Russian Red. | Cons: I prefer the twist mechanism of REVLON Lacquer Balm. Not a fan of having to use a sharpener!
What do you think of my Holiday Red Lip Colour Selection? Which one is your favourite red lip colour?
